From the fertile lands of the Ethiopian highlands I grew.
I was noticed by Kaldi’s goats, chew after chew.
For I have created them to something new
Nocturnal goats, running and jumping past their curfew.
Years have past
I’ve met the tongues of Africans, Arabs and Europeans
Soon, the tongues of Asians and Americans
I’ve seen beauty for how they value me, traded me, and brewed me
For every sip, I’ve made ideas and peace
I’ve calmed Beethoven to Kafka to compose their arts
And I’ve invigored Freud’s to Tito’s soul to change the future
With the touch of their hands, I’ve grown everywhere
Under the scorching rays of the star called sun, I’ve dried
Hitting the scalding heat of metal, I’ve been roasted
By the cuts of the rotary blades, I was ground
And with the essence of life, I was brewed.
